Tip of the Month: How to use alerts for operations.

Hi ,

We’re less than a month away from the federal election and we very much seem to be full steam towards a version of growth. So what does this mean for your community and what does this mean for waste services? Without a doubt – there is going to be further expectation for you to do more to provide to your community – more services, more diversion outcomes – and more results when it comes to re-using that material locally and regionally. This systemic change is great – but it’s hard on people and systems.

I would encourage you all at this time to first consider the people who are serving your community. I’ve had a number of recent conversations with waste managers who really find themselves stretched by circumstances in delivering what is a core service. Delivering waste services through floods, drivers and staff who are unavailable due to COVID, staff turnover or other issues.

It just feels like everyone is more challenged and more stretched than ever before and so I would encourage us all to think about the human side of what we do and how we can be more effective at being of service to those around us. System capacity is about developing human capacity - and it’s about expanding that, not just by adding more people, but by improving the capacity of those people already in the system, in what they can do and accomplish.

When it comes to us as a business we seek to be acutely aware of that and I continue to be tremendously proud of our team and their focus on being of service to you. I look back at history and see the willingness of our team – to step forward and grow in our support of you and your teams and I’m tremendously proud of that

I always love a chat so please reach out.

    Mandalay at LAWMAC April 2022
    Recap from Andrew McDougall
Andrew McDougall (Head of Services here at Mandalay) shares his thoughts following the recent LAWMAC event held in Townsville:

A big thanks to Matthew McCarthy, the Waste Team and Townsville City Council for hosting LAWMAC this month. It was a great opportunity to connect with many industry partners, government leaders and our Queensland customers.

    We experienced insightful presentations from
Jason Lange from Atlas Soils who showed the real-world applications of organics recycling in local circular economies, and Lacey Webb from Resource Hub who talked about the impact of changes to the QLD waste levy and what it means for councils and their communities.

Some of you might not know that here at
Mandalay, some members of our team are out there living in the council areas we work with. It was wonderful to have our Head of Customer Success, Brendon Horswell, head up to my home town of Townsville and spend some valuable time with our customers seeing their sites and understanding their needs.
    Meet the Team
    Myriam Beyoddi
We would like to introduce you to another member of our growing team - our awesome Account Executive, Myriam Beyoddi! Myriam is from France and has been living in Australia for almost 5 years. She graduated from a Double Master’s Degree in International Business and Management and has since been working in the waste industry for almost 10 years across both France and Australia.
Myriam works alongside Brendon Horswell (Head of Customer Success), Rosemary Black (Head of Sales and Strategic Accounts) and Mandalay’s CEO, Simon Kalinowski. You will often find her responding to customer enquiries throughout the sales process and helping to ensure customers are getting maximum value from their product subscriptions. The skills and experience gained during her 2 years of working in IT for Google combined with her passion and experience in the waste industry has made Myriam a valued asset here at Mandalay.

Myriam decided to work for Mandalay because she is passionate about the waste industry and what can be done to improve it. She likes how Mandalay offers councils and communities the ability to track and monitor their waste production so they can plan how to reduce waste, increase diversion, and increase awareness about sustainable waste management.

She believes that managing waste better will massively contribute towards tackling climate change by reducing the volume of waste going to landfill (especially FOGO) and related methane emissions. Welcome Myriam, we are so happy to have you on our team!

P.S: Myriam will be at the Waste 2022 conference in Coffs Harbour next week. If you're planning to be there, don't be shy, come and say hello!
    Waste 2022
We're looking forward to seeing you next week
While Mandalay will not have a stand at this year’s conference, we will have a full team in attendance and we’re looking forward to catching up with as many of you as possible during the event.

Over the last year, particularly in New South Wales, we have had a lot of success with new organisations making the choice to trust us with their data and operations. There has been a lot of focus and validation that we are doing something right, that we think differently about the problem, and how we can help you succeed. We'd be delighted to catch up with you whilst down there.

If you would like to have a general catch up or have specific topics – please reach out to Simon Kalinowski, Rosemary Black, Brendon Horswell or Myriam Beyoddi. We all immensely value the time with you in person at an event like this.

Grab a coffee with Resource Hub
A message from the team at Resource Hub...
We’ve noticed that most of the calls we get on a weekly basis are from people in our industry who just need some quick advice, introductions to the right people, or the answer to a waste levy or regulation question that’s been bothering them for a while. Getting time with the right people can be difficult, so the Resource Hub team has decided to set up shop at Waste 2022 to dedicate time to answer your questions and help guide you in the right direction where needed. Have any of the below questions been on your mind lately?
    • Do you know anyone that.. who do I talk to about..?
    • Am I paying too much Waste Levy?
    • What’s an End of Waste Code anyway?
    • If it comes from metro zone but it goes to a non-levy zone, how much levy do I pay?
    • So what do the recent regulatory changes mean for our facility?

If so, get in touch to lock in a time (hello@resourcehub.com.au), or stop by at the conference. You won’t be able to miss us!

Look forward to seeing you there,
Lacey and the Resource Hub team

    Using Alerts for Operations
Many clients utilise the alerts feature within the Facility Core Product (Mandalay CS) for notifying operators about a client or vehicle, but have you considered using alerts to assist in the operations of your site?

Alerts can also be set on products for things such as directing traffic to a stockpile or for setting reminders to check for contamination.
