AUGUST 2021 NEWSLETTER

Hi ,

In this month's edition:

When Data is Power - read the August Waste Management Review cover story, featuring David McAlister at Ipswich City Council

Does your organisation have a Data Governance Strategy in place?

Plus, meet Sophie Hill from Mandalay's Support Team

Who are your customers, and what service are they looking for?
We have been very fortunate with the ongoing support of our customers and I have recently had the opportunity to participate in a number of conversations with other organisations with a desire to move away from their current suppliers.

Something that has really stuck out to me and something I’d like to share is the need to see your facilities as essentially a retail and service business, with a real emphasis on serving your customers. Through identifying the different customer segments that you support and understanding what service looks like for each of those customer segments you will be able to support them to the best of your ability.

Nothing has reinforced that more than talking with facilities over the past couple of months who are currently using other software. In contrast, I have seen the level to which our customers have evolved their operations to service their customers along with their appetite to continually improve their operations and the service they offer.

The customer is always at the heart of what we do and I take this opportunity to highlight that you should really think about who your customer is.
Who are the customers of your facilities?
Who are the customers of your waste services?
What are their needs and how do they wish to be serviced?
Wishing you ongoing success in your role and please feel free to reach out at any point. I’d love to spend some time to talk through and understand your circumstances and needs from us.

    Do You Have a
    Data Governance Strategy?
    Key Roles Within Data Governance
When conducting Admin Training with new customers, there are always several questions that our training team will start with. The responses to these questions will identify whether a data governance strategy is in place which is an important step towards ensuring your data is managed and administered correctly.
There is a common misconception that your Data Administrator and Data Owner is the same person. However, this is not the case.

Data Owner: Your Data Owner is the owner of your data. They will govern the policy, identify any changes that need to be made and will sign off on regulatory reporting. It is their responsibility to direct the Data Custodian Group to make necessary adjustments in order to maintain compliance.

Data Custodian: This is a group of people who will implement the changes that are required by the data owner and could be made up of people from different departments within your organisation (e.g. waste, environmental, customer service, finance etc).

Data Administrator: Your Data Administrator is responsible for maintaining the data.

In addition to these roles, there are a number of other areas within Data Governance that should be addressed, but as a starting point:

    Who is your data owner?
Have you updated your data capture processes?
Do you have a Data Custodian Group?
    Team Member Profile
    Sophie Hill
Sophie Hill has been a member of the Mandalay team since early 2018. Even though all support team members will answer calls, you will often find Sophie picking up the phone or responding to initial calls for support. Her passion lies in minimising interruptions for customers and she will at some point work on each and every ticket that Mandalay’s Support team receives.

To support the team, Sophie will work with customers to gather as much information as possible about a support request to ensure roadblocks are removed and information is on hand when required. While sometimes not the person directly working on a ticket Sophie will see tickets through to completion to ensure momentum is maintained.

Level one technical support tasks directly handled by Sophie include requests related to permissions, access, and Web-Based Reporting (WBR), and she will work with customers to re-establish connection with hardware.

Sophie sees herself as the conduit between customers and our more technical team members by helping to communicate technical information in a non-technical way.

    Facility Core Product (Mandalay CS)
    Version 3.7 Available Soon
Last month we announced that version 3.7 of the Facility Core Product is coming soon. We will be contacting several customers shortly to begin beta testing before it is finally available for release.

In the meantime, here are two more of the features you can expect to see in this upcoming version.
    Hardware Status and Control

Version 3.7 will allow operators to see and interact with the status of hardware such as image capture cameras, EID readers and boom gates/traffic lights. Operators will be able to click on the status indicator to access/view additional information such as:
    • The functional and operational state of each device;
    • The image currently available through a camera;
    • Manually control boom gates and traffic lights.
    Print Multiple Dockets Quickly

For non-account sales, Operators will have the ability to choose how many dockets they would like to print from the cash tender screen. There will be a default setting available, plus additional options to print multiple dockets that the Operator can quickly choose from.

    Next steps
Once beta testing has begun we will provide further updates on the expected roll-out.

Detailed release notes will be made available and a webinar will be announced closer to the release date.
