Welcome to the latest Mandalay newsletter!


I’m very excited to share this edition of the Mandalay newsletter as the first one I am introducing. For those who don’t know me, I am the Chief Operating Officer here at Mandalay. I have been in this role for around 5 years now and am actively involved in our product development, company growth, and user engagement. 


This is an exciting time of year for both our clients and our team. With the end of the financial year approaching, we’ve been actively engaged in onboarding new customers who will be going live in the new financial year, while also supporting our existing clients with their end-of-year activities. 


As we look ahead, I eagerly anticipate further growth and developments within our industry. The new financial year promises to bring exciting opportunities, and I'm confident in our ability to continue providing exceptional service and innovative solutions to our valued clients.

New Customer Story

Narromine Shire Council


We’re delighted to welcome Narromine Shire Council as a new Mandalay Technologies customer! Before coming on board with us, Narromine Shire Council sought ways to improve the accuracy of the data required to report to the state authority, which has now been solved thanks to Mandalay.  

We are pleased to share that the implementation of Mandalay’s solutions has been a great success and enabled Narromine to transition over from their existing systems in a seamless way. 

Because of this, their operators have come onboard rather quickly and have been learning the system rapidly to capture transactions at the waste facility with confidence. 


Here’s what Anthony Everett, Manager of Waste & Community Facilities, shared about their decision to move to Mandalay: 


‘After many years of disappointment with the previous provider council started to investigate other providers. A lot of phone calls to other waste facilities around NSW produced two options. Council decided to go with Mandalay based on the feedback from Mandalay users from councils that have just started their journey with Mandalay or that have been with Mandalay for many years, even though they were slightly dearer. From the first project meeting to after go-live on the first of May, Mandalay made the transition so smooth and easy as the project manager.’ 



Waste Services Team Leader Carl Ebsworth also had this to say about the ticketing process with Mandalay:  


‘Mandalay is not rocket science. If you make a mistake mid ticket, you can back out.  If you do make a mistake on a completed ticket, replacing tickets is simple!’ 



We’re so glad the onboarding process has been such a success!

Meet the Team

Gi Carvill

Gi Carvill joined Mandalay Technologies in July 2023 as an Application Specialist. With an interest in the emerging growth of technology in the Waste Industry and a diverse professional background including customer service, computer business ownership, and various other roles, Gi brings a unique perspective to his work at Mandalay.  

When customers email or call needing support with their applications, Gi is there to help. He enjoys troubleshooting and gets a buzz out of showing customers the steps they need to take to solve a problem and use their applications more effectively.  


Gi also supports the Mandalay team by reviewing user guides within the Customer Service Portal to ensure they are concise and easy to understand. He values continuous learning, both personally and professionally, making him an integral member of the Mandalay team. 


Outside of work, Gi is a proud new father, having recently welcomed his daughter, Luna, into the world. He also loves scuba diving and flying radio-controlled helicopters. With his diverse skill set, adaptability, and commitment to excellence, Gi is a valuable member of the Mandalay team and we’re very glad to have him onboard.  

Product Updates

Facility Analytics & Reporting

Customers now have access to a new Data Export within Facility Analytics & Reporting called Product Pricing.


This export provides a detailed overview of the pricing details within a current season and can be used to plan pricing for new seasons.

Resident Product Suite

Is your council getting ready to issue annual waste entitlements to residents? This could be waste vouchers, tip passes, bulk waste, hard rubbish or verge collection entitlements issued by council.  

Things are busier than ever for our Resident Product Suite team and we’re excited to welcome several new Residents customers. Our team works closely with a variety of departments within your councils including Rates, Communications and Customer Service teams, to support entitlement management and distribution. 

This year we have several new pieces of functionality being released across our Residents' products with more information being shared in the coming months. This functionality has been specifically requested by our customers too. We are proud to actively collaborate with all of you to continually enhance our product offering based on your direct and ongoing feedback.   

Commercial Services

Our early adopters have now successfully invited and linked more than 75 organisations within Commercial Services.


These organisations are now able to access their facility transaction information directly from the Commercial Services Portal, allowing them to access detailed ticket information at a time that is convenient to them.  

We’re also about to go live with a new Facility Core Ticketing customer who will be using Commercial Services as their primary method for delivering (digital) dockets to their customers. This is an exciting step forward and we’re thrilled to be able to deliver a paperless solution to this customer.

Tip of The Month

New Season Pricing

Do you have your new season pricing setup and ready to go for July 1st? 


If the answer is no, it is not too late. Pricing for the new season can be configured now so that it seamlessly takes effect at the beginning of the new season.  

This article provides a step-by-step guide to support you through the process. Once you have created the new season, be sure to click on the ‘Use this season for this Administration Session’ button as this will ensure the new season appears as the default season while you are setting new pricing on products.

Proactive Hardware Reviews

Keeping Your Hardware Up-to-Date

As you finalise budgets for this end of financial year, we want to send a quick reminder that now is a good time to begin reviewing the warranty and remaining useful life of hardware critical to your site’s operation. 


We continually conduct proactive reviews of the warranty status of assets we have supplied to our customers throughout the year, but if you find a device that is out of warranty or about to exceed its warranty, get in touch to receive a replacement from us.  

Out of warranty devices can expose various risks to your business including increased downtime due to lack of support from the manufacturers if these units are to fail. To mitigate these risks, we recommend that out of warranty devices be replaced.   


Contact us to discuss a replacement plan for your equipment and ensure your waste management system runs smoothly. 


Event Wrap Up

Waste 2024 - Coffs Harbour

Mandalay Technologies was well-represented at the 2024 Coffs Waste Conference, with Brendon Horswell, Rosemary Black and Simon Kalinowski attending the industry's leading annual event.  

While we focused on having a chat with existing clients and potential new partners during breaks, the conference itself offered a diverse range of attendees and presentations covering critical topics like legislation and collection initiatives, policy-driven waste reduction, and the circular economy. This year’s superheroes and villains' dinner theme was a blast too.  

Mandalay User Forum - North Queensland

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank several of our North Queensland customers who joined us at a Mandalay User Forum last week in Cairns.


We had some great discussions around regulatory updates and the latest enhancements to our facility product and reporting tools. A special thanks goes out to Cairns Regional Council for hosting us for the day. We hope all attendees were able to take away some valuable information and insights from the session and enjoyed the opportunity to network with other councils.
