Hi ,

This month we share a taste of what our development team is working on and coupled with the recent breach of Optus’ systems I felt inspired to comment on Mandalay’s commitment and investment in security measures. One of the byproducts of the connected world we live in is that systems at all levels will be prone to malicious activity in an attempt to access, manipulate and misuse data.

We took the view quite some time ago that the level of trust we had with our customers directly equated to the assurance that Mandalay would partner with them to manage the control of data. For us, that work will never end, and I would estimate that we spend 20-25% of our annual R&D budget on security measures.

As referenced in this article, the reality is that enterprise and government systems are more prone to data privacy breaches than ever before due to the evolution of hackers’ technology. We consider it our responsibility to go above and beyond to provide a level of surety in data privacy and management and we look at this in two ways.

  • One is around limiting unauthorised access to your data from outside of your organisation.
  • The other, which is often underestimated, involves improving audit ability and understanding who is doing what within your organisation. An example of this is the support we have provided to our customers with Queensland Audit Office audits.

From an individual standpoint and how we operate as an organisation, I think the other area often underestimated is the way we handle ourselves in the event that we fail to meet the standards that we set. As an organisation, we can always do better, but we are very committed to being open and transparent with our customers where we do have areas for improvement. This highlights the importance of sharing our roadmap and what we’re doing so that we are constantly working with our customers to improve their business security, their data security and the trust and confidence in us being their operational partner.

Thank you for your continued support.  I’d love your thoughts in terms of where we’re placing our development efforts currently.

Take a Peek at Mandalay's Roadmap
Here at Mandalay, we have 3 teams of developers who continually work to maintain and improve our software for you. Headed up by our Development Manager David Miller, each team works to ensure that the products and software we offer continue to expand and improve, with the ultimate goal of providing you with value and making your day-to-day lives easier.

We also know how important data security is for you. This is one of the reasons why we don’t use offshore resources, and our product and development teams are all based in Australia. It is also the reason we hold an ISO certification in information security, to give you that extra piece of mind.

So, what are our development teams working on right now?

    • Onsite vehicle processing
    • Regulatory enhancements and reporting
    • DataSync enhancements
    • Hardware layer resilience
    • Data warehouse performance
    • Facility Analytics and Reporting improvements
    • On-demand bulk waste services

Look out for future updates to find out when these products and features will become available.

    Behind the Scenes with Mandalay's
    Development Team
    Hosted Product Updates and Releases
Mandalay’s hosted products, available via the naus Platform, are updated in a fortnightly release cycle commonly referred to as a sprint.
What is a Sprint? - A sprint is a regular two-week allocation of tasks worked on by the respective product teams. All tasks across the development workload are listed according to priority. Each sprint allows the team to address the highest priority tasks shaped by customer feedback and in response to issues.
A sprint incorporates long term product roadmaps but also accommodates short term hot fixes.
What is a Hotfix? - Hotfixes are high-priority tasks that come through last minute and are in addition to the pre-arranged 2-week cycle tasks. Because hotfixes are often pushed ahead of other priorities, they may interrupt the sprint and result in some of these tasks being pushed back.
After every sprint or hotfix there may be a release that incorporates hotfixes or enhancements to our products.
What is a Release? - A release is an updated version of the existing software following the completion of a sprint cycle and/or a hotfix. A new software version with the update/fix is then assigned to that release. We also send out notifications about upcoming releases.
Products deployed on local machines will need to undergo a manual update process. Contact the Mandalay Support team to request access to the latest product version for your locally deployed products (e.g. the Facility Core Product - Ticketing).

    The Waste and Recycle Conference
    Meet and Greets in Perth
It was exciting for us to see our Western Australian customers while attending the Waste and Recycle Conference in Perth earlier this month. Not only did we meet some of you at the conference itself, but we also made the most of our time in WA by hosting an enjoyable networking event for our customers, and we had the opportunity to visit several of our customer's sites too. We want to thank you all for welcoming us so warmly during our visit, and we hope to see you all in person again soon.

    Tip of the Month
How to Reopen a Till Shift
If a till shift is accidentally closed before the end of the day, an operator can reopen a shift if they have the correct permissions in admin. This will allow the user to merge two shifts together.
The ‘reopen shift’ option can be found in the system menu when you click X in the top right of your ticketing screen. Refer to your internal system administrator to update permissions if required.
